I will start this article by saying that I’m lucky. It might not be the best way to start an article, but we’ll get to the reason why I decided to say that. The other day I was reflecting on my own life and decisions while relaxing on my porch and having a glass of wine. If I would compare it with a similar day from a few years ago when I had no idea about what I want to do with my life and what I want to become, the new one was way better.
A few years ago I was completely lost. I was stuck in a job that I didn’t like, toxic friends and relationships and it seemed like nothing worked the way I wanted it to. After a big breakdown, I decided that it was time to do something with my life, to stop playing the victim and to take actions to improve my life. I was dreaming about having a modern minimalist business that could make me happy with my life, that would bring the joy that I missed during my boring office job.
The next day I placed myself in front of my computer, I opened a document and I started to write a plan. I tried to plan everything, but it took me just a little bit of time until I got stuck overthinking everything. So I decided to divide my plan into smaller steps and only think one step at a time. I stopped overthinking, I focused on the step that I was currently working on and I didn’t think about the next one until I finished the current one. I was dreaming of becoming a logo designer pro but I was still spending most of my time at a job that I didn’t like, so it was a bit more difficult than I expected. I had to stay up late working on my passion and I had to wake up early to make it to work.
It took me roughly 6 months of pretty muck working 2 jobs. The main one and also the tasks that I was doing as a freelancer. I managed to gain some customers and I had deadlines that I had to respect. Slowly but steady, the money started to come. After trying a few different things, I found out that I would like to focus on webdesign logo because this is what I wanted the most and it would let my creativity fly.
As it was written in my plan since I started that document that I was telling you about earlier, one of my goals was to save as much as I could. Fortunately, my job salary was good enough to allow me to live a decent life and also to save some money. Besides that, everything that I earned from my design tasks went straight to my savings account. I knew that I was going to need that money sooner or later. So after I felt confident enough, I quit my job and I focused 100% on my passion. Now, a few years later, things are working better than I ever expected and looking back, it was all worth it.
